Will's Flat Stanley Goes to Spain, Scotland and France!

WOW!  Will's Flat Stanley has become quite the world traveler!
Flat Stanley went to Seville, Spain!  Here you can see many traditions and two important monuments, the Cathedral and Torre De Oro.

This is the Plaza De Espana-the Spanish Plaza.  It was built in 1929.  It represents all the Spanish cities.  Each city has a mosaic mural there!

This picture was taken outside a famous monument, El Alcazar.  It is a beautiful Moorism (Arab) palace.  This is the entrance way.  It's very beautiful! Flat Stanley loved it!
Flat Stanley also went to Scotland with Will's friends!  Scotland is one of the four countries that make up the United Kingdom and there are almost 800 islands there!  The capital of Scotland is Edinburgh.  Over 5 million people live in Scotland and the picture above shows a man wearing the traditional dress of Scotland!
Scotland has a very rich medieval history.  There are many castles throughout Scotland and Flat Stanley loved them! It rains a lot in Scotland so it is very green! There are many mountains and plains.  It is fun to travel through the country and visit many castles!

Then Flat Stanley traveled to France!!  He went to Bordeaux where there are some beautiful monuments.  It looks like a fairy tale!

This is the most important monument in Bordeaux!
This is the Arachon Bay of the southwest coast.  It is a popular vacation destination close to Bordeaux, France.  It is great for bird-watching!!  Flat Stanley saw lots of pretty birds there!

Alex's Flat Stanley Has Arrived in Maine!

Alex's Flat Stanley has safely arrived in Maine! He's enjoying a little rest and relaxation at Sebago Lake!

Autumn's Flat Stanley Meets New Friends in Gettysburg!

Stanley got to meet a group of wonderful young ladies from Michigan! They were so excited to see Stanley, they wanted to have their picture taken with him!

Autumn's Flat Stanley in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania!

I had lots of questions about General Farnsworth after having dinner at the Farnsworth house last night. So Ginny took me to see the site of the ill fated Calvary charge where he was killed. The confederate army was on the hill above the field Farnsworth 's Calvary attempted to cross. The field is strewn with boulders so it was difficult to charge across the field on horseback . Here is a photo of the field.

General Joshua Lawrence Chamberlain was originally a professor of literature at Bowdoin college in Brunswick Maine. He volunteered to join the Union Army.
General Chamberlain is remembered for leading the bayonet charge in defense of Little Round Top at the battle of Gettysburg.
It was one of the turning points of the battle that helped the Union Army defeat the Confederate Army at Gettysburg.
Here are some photos from Little Round Top.

Autumn's Flat Stanley in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania!

Hello! We arrived in Gettysburg Thursday morning! I came to Gettysburg with Ginny and some of her friends. We brought their horses so we could ride the Gettysburg battlefield.

The battle of Gettysburg was a turning point of the Civil War. The  southern Confederate army was defeated by the norther Union Army.

Thursday night we ate dinner at the Farnsworth house. It is named for Union General Elon John Farnsworth who was killed in an ill fated charge against a confederate division near little round top. If you look closely at the brick walk near the Farnsworth sign, you can see bullet marks in the bricks.

Autumn's Flat Stanley Tours the Naval Academy!

Autumn's Flat Stanley is having so much fun in Maryland at the Naval Academy! They had a fabulous lunch and then they took a walk around the Naval Academy.
Stanley is in front of Bancroft Hall which is the dormitory that houses the 4400 Midshipmen.

This is the statue of Tecumseh.  He gets his war paint on for special occasions and events. During final exams some Midshipmen will toss pennies at Tecumseh for special help to pass.

Here is the Chapel at the Naval Academy. It serves Midshipmen of all faiths. Flat Stanley and I went in for a quick look.  Next stop: Gettysburg, Pennsylvania!  I hope Flat Stanley will say hello to Mrs. Sturgis' daughter!

Autumn's Flat Stanley in Maryland!

Today Stanley got to see the B-1 Wright Flyer up close. The Navy purchased the airplane from the Wright Brothers in 1911. The Wright's made the plane in their factory in Dayton Ohio, boxed it up and shipped it to the Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. Orville Wright accompanied the plane and helped the Midshipmen assemble it in Dahlgren Hall, where the replica hangs today. It made its first flight from the Naval Academy on 7 Sept 1911. Stanley got to sit in the pilots seat.

More Adventures with Autumn's Flat Stanley!

This week Flat Stanley is visiting Autumn's Uncle Pat's Mom and Dad (Ginny and Tom). They live in Annapolis MD with their dog Sam. Today Stanley visited the U. S. Naval Academy  where Tom works. The Naval Academy is a four year college for men and women who desire to serve as officers in the Navy or Marine Corps. Students are called Midshipmen and attend class, have military obligations and play sports. First stop was Tom's class. Tom asked if he could get a volunteer to have their picture taken with Flat Stanley. WOW, most of these second year college students had known Stanley when they were in grade school and couldn't wait to have their picture taken. Here is a picture of Tom's students today. They are all sophomores, or third class Midshipmen. They will graduate in 2018. More travels with Stan to follow.

Thank you, Mr. Tom Feeks!

Autumn's Flat Stanley in Maryland and Pennsylvania!

Hello! I arrived in Annapolis Maryland today! I will be spending some time with Tom and Ginny Feeks and Sam! Here is a picture of me with Sam.
Sam was born in Acton, Maine at Salmon Falls Kennels. Sam is a Labrador Retriever.
Tom and Ginny lived in Bath, Maine for 3 years. Tom was a pilot in the US Navy stationed at Brunswick Naval air station.
Now Tom and Ginny live here in Annapolis.
Annapolis is the capital of the state of Maryland as well the home of the United States Naval Academy. Tom is going to take me to the Naval Academy tomorrow!
On the way to the Naval Academy we will cross over the bridge that was named for Autumn's Uncle Pat who was a Navy SEAL killed fighting for his country in Afghanistan.
Later in the week Ginny will be taking me to Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. The battle of Gettysburg was the turning point of the American Civil War. General Robert E Lee and the army of the Confederacy (the south) was defeated by General George Meade and the Union Army (the north).
We will be sending more pictures and stories about our visit!
