Flat Stanley in Virginia!

Rylee's Flat Stanley has traveled to Virginia with Katie, TJ and Bella, and has sent us some great information about this state! Click here to find out more about Virginia! We have some very famous Americans who came from Virginia. George Washington lived at Mount Vernon. Thomas Jefferson started the University of Virginia.  James Madison, James Monroe, William Henry Harrison, John Tyler, Zachary Taylor and Woodrow Wilson also lived here.  That makes 8 famous Virginians who became President of the United States! One of our nicknames is "Mother of Presidents".  Our other nickname is "The Old Dominion".

Our state capital is Richmond. We became members of the USA in 1788. We were the 10th state in the USA. Our state flower and our state tree are the same: The Dogwood!

Have you seen a cardinal? We see them a lot here in Virginia.  They are our state bird!

Did you know that the first Thanksgiving was held in Virginia? In 1619, Captain John Woodlief led a group of settlers in the first Thanksgiving--more than a year before the Pilgrims landed in Massachusetts!

Colin's Flat Stanley having a great adventure in France!

Colin's Flat Stanley is having a wonderful time in Paris at his cousin Bobby’s apartment.

 

Here is a message from him: "Hello to all the students! I went to the Paris Opera where I got a tour of the national monument and met a ballerina!

Here are some photos of my adventure! Bobby is going to take me to his show on Thursday, I am going to be on stage acting in his play with him!"

Flat Stanley went to work with Uncle Carlos at Pratt Industries in Staten Island, New York, where he is the Safety/Quality control manager.  They make their boxes from recycled boxes from New York City.  So, the next time you need boxes from Home Depot or eat a pizza from Domino's, remember that Flat Stanley got to see them being made!

This is cousin Chris!  He is a barber and tried to hide me in his beard!

U.S. Joint Base. Flat Stanley was very glad they weren't practicing while he was there! It can get really loud in the community and even shake the houses sometimes!
