Exciting Times in Arizona with Autumn's Flat Stanley!

Stanley with a horned toad!

Ranger Ron telling us about the various cacti in the area and how the Native American used different plants to survive. This is prickly pear cactus.

This is called the "jumping cactus because it seems to jump out and hitch a ride!

These are chollo cactus

These are petroglyphs made by early Native Americans. They were used to tell a story and to pass the story on to others.

Ranger Ron points out the saguaro cactus. They can live to be 300 years old! They don't grow "arms" until they are about 60- 75 years old! The taller the "arms" the older the cactus. On the ground just behind Ranger Ron is the skeleton of a saguaro that died. The Native Americans would use these skeletons to build houses because they are very strong but also flexible.

Autumn's Flat Stanley in Arizona!

Flat Stanley has been spending the weekend with some very special people. Here are a few of them. These folks are Gold Star parents. This means that they have lost a child who was fighting for our great nation.
We come together once a year in honor and remembrance of our sons and daughters.

Kayden's Flat Stanley in Japan!

Hello to Kayden and Mrs. Sturgis' Class,
It’s nice to write to you, and I am glad to join your exciting project. Please let me introduce myself to you:

My name is Miho Onishi.  I am 37 years old and I live in Tokyo, the capital city of Japan.

Now it is getting warmer and warmer in Tokyo.
At the beginning of April, I enjoyed full of cherry blossom with Flat Stanley in the neighborhood. In this season, we have a "cherry- blossom-viewing" party. We'll just eat & drink under the tree. It is very fun!!
Thank you for reading a long letter. I hope you enjoy it, and you come to Japan someday.
Best Wishes from MIHO!
