I am in Seattle, Washington
now with Harrison's friend Ben. Getting here we drove up on a windy
curvy road at the very edge of the Pacific ocean.Today
there was a clear overcast sky and Ben took me out of the envelope for a
really bad photo he took at the downtown public market... It is all
blurry but behind me is the Seattle harbor. Seattle is a lot like
Portland, Maine where Harrison hangs out with his mom Heather and his
crazy skateboard brother Oliver. Seattle has a big Port with lots of
boats coming and going and the town is very hilly. Fishing is a big
business for lots of people. There are lots of big mountains around
Seattle like in Portland, Oregon where I was last week. One is another
volcano called Mount Saint Helens. Ben stays Mount Saint Helens
erupted about 20 years ago and it was a huge explosion knocking over all
the trees in a huge forest. So far I like
Seattle...we have one more day here then we are going to take a cool car
trip back to Portland Oregon for one day.
Join us as we travel the globe with the Flat Stanleys of Mrs. Sturgis' class!

Dexter's Flat Stanley: California to Illinois!
I have had a fun time at the Warbianys! They live right near the beach
in San Clemente, California. My new friend Jack took me to watch the sun set which
is his favorite thing to do with his Mummy. He wanted so much to take
me surfing although it was only 55 degrees in the water and he didn't
have a wet suit to fit me. He said if I wanted to surf next time come
back in summer. Jack said that his little town is fun to live in and
is the most South part of Orange County. Jack even has a class at school
that is 'surfing' and he gets graded on it! I found out that Los
Angeles which is a huge city is only an hour away. My favorite part
about visiting was how big the sun was when setting. Now I am on my way to Chicago, Illinois!

Harrison's Flat Stanley in Boston!
When I woke up this morning, Stanley was in my Boston Painting studio. He
had a brush in his hand and was standing at my painting easel. He told me
that he didn’t like the way this painting was progressing and HE was
going to fix it! I protested but Stanley said “ I am doing you a
favor, because I am a much better artist than you are". He had also
finished all of the food I had bought for our breakfast! This Stanley is
out of control…I can’t wait till he flies out to Portland Oregon next
week! What is he going to do next?
Harrison's Flat Stanley in New York!
Well,
after helping Harrison’s painter friend Ben with his artwork , for
which Ben didn’t seem very grateful, we got on the AMTRAK train and went
down to New York City for the weekend….Ben woke me up when the train
arrived and said” get up Stan, we are in Manhattan “… I thought we were
going to New York City…Ben said that New York is made up of 5 big
neighborhoods called Boroughs…Manhattan , where we arrived, is one of
the five boroughs and is on an island…how cool is that…the morning in
the city was not so great because Ben left me in the envelope but in the
afternoon we went over to Brooklyn on a taxi boat…Ben says that
Brooklyn is one of the neighborhoods of New York City but it sure looked
bigger than a neighborhood to me….we got on the boat taxi near the
southern tip of Manhattan , a place called Battery Park…there is an old
fort there from the Revolutionary War….as the boat left for Brooklyn we
got a great view of the Statue of Liberty…it is a big green woman
holding up a torch over her head….Ben says it was a gift from the people
in France and welcomes visitors and immigrants to the United
States….Ben says almost all Americans have relatives who were immigrants
and many of them saw this green lady the first thing when they got
here…she really is big, the people below her are so small…
When we got to BROOKLYN I got put back in the
envelope while Ben visited a friend….but on the way back to Manhattan we
didn’t take the boat or the subway, but we walked , well Ben did…I rode
in his pocket…the bridge was called the Williamsburg Bridge…the bridge
is over the East River, one of the two rivers which make Manhattan an
island…the other river is called the Hudson according to Ben. Ben said there was a special reason we took this bridge…as
we were approaching the Manhattan side of the bridge, Ben told me to
look to the south…he said that Harrison used to live on the 10 th floor
of the big brick building below us…so cool…he used to have this same
view from his bedroom that we had from the bridge…there was a park
across the street from his building and it was beside the river where
boats come and go all day…I was getting tired so Ben put me back in the
envelope after taking a few photos…I don’t remember anything else…
This Friday
afternoon we are going to get on a plane and fly across the entire
United States to a town on the Pacific coast called Portland in the
state called Oregon …( there is another ocean on the other side of the
country Ben says is called the Pacific )…so that’s it for now…news
coming soon from Portland…Stanley

Drew's Flat Stanley in Columbia!
Drew's Flat Stanley visited Bogota, Columbia! Stanley learned many fascinating things there. Bogota is the 3rd highest capital in South America, with an average elevation of 8,660 feet above sea level, and sits on a plateau of the Andes mountains known as the Bogota Savanna. The city is home to many historical landmarks and cultural museums. It is especially proud of the Museo Botero which features art from Fernando Botero.

Claire's Flat Stanley had fun in the Netherlands! He even got to help fly the plane!
After his big traveling adventure, he went in a big machine! It looks like he was getting flattened out just like a big sheet of lasagna!
Then he had a lovely time in a field full of beautiful flowers!
Then to top off his day, he had a fun bike ride! Great job getting lots of fitness on your vacation in the Netherlands, Stanley!
